Montpelier, Vt. – The Phil Scott for Vermont campaign today announced their online video, “The High Road,” is the most watched video of the 2016 Vermont gubernatorial primary election.
Scott has also earned, by far, the most Republican endorsements because of his opposition to new tax increases, plans for reducing state spending and unwavering commitment to reversing Vermont’s crisis of affordability.
“The High Road” video premiered just last week and features Scott rising above the negative, unprecedented campaign tactics of his opponent and instead focusing on his two key priorities: Growing the economy and making Vermont more affordable.
“In the field, at events, and online, the response from Vermonters has been overwhelmingly positive. From the team’s standpoint, it is very reassuring to see Vermonters so receptive to Phil’s positive, issues-based campaign when our opponent is being incredibly dishonest,” said Brittney Wilson, spokeswoman for the Scott campaign. “Phil tells us every day that ‘If we are serious about changing the tone and the quality of elections here and across the country, we have to be willing to lead by example.’ In the face of incredibly dishonest smear tactics and attack ads, we are proud to stand up for everyone who wants an honest discussion of the issues and how we can all work together to reform state government, strengthen the economy and make Vermont affordable for families and businesses.”
“Vermonters have the opportunity to make a real statement on Tuesday about the kind of political campaigns they want to see in Vermont by voting for Phil Scott,” Wilson added. “At Phil’s direction we’re going to continue to take the high road, all the way to victory in November, and we hope Vermonters of all political persuasions will turn out on August 9th and vote in the Republican primary to send a crystal clear message about the type of campaigns and candidates they want in Vermont.”

Heading into Tuesday’s Primary, Scott has also earned the most endorsements of any candidate, with supporters acknowledging Scott’s economic priorities, focus on the issues impacting Vermonters, and positive approach.
Roger Marcoux, Sheriff of Lamoille County, for example, said the Vermont Sheriffs’ Association endorsed Phil Scott for Governor because of “his [leadership] and commitment to combatting opiate addiction and its collateral damage in this state.” Brian Hoar, on behalf of the Vehicle and Automotive Distributors Association (VADA), also endorsed Phil for his leadership saying, “He is the only candidate who has focused all of his attention on growing the economy and making Vermont more affordable; and he is the only candidate with the leadership ability to build the bipartisan coalition necessary to get real results.”
In addition, Phil Scott has the support of more than 100 Republican legislators, former legislators, candidates, and party officials. Highlighting this very long list of endorsements are Jim Douglas, former Governor of Vermont, and Randy Brock, former Franklin County Senator and State Auditor. Last week, in a press conference in Colchester, Randy Brock said he decided to endorse Phil Scott because “[Phil] is a fighter for working Vermonters and will oppose all new taxes. Most importantly, he is a leader with tremendous integrity who we can count on to restore faith and trust in the Governor’s office.”
Listen, Learn, Lead: Phil Scott
Phil Scott is a consistent voice of reason and common sense in Montpelier. As the only Republican elected to statewide office, Phil shows determination and leadership in advocating for Vermonters and promoting policies and programs that benefit Vermont families and the economy. That’s why he has the support of more than 100 current and former Republican leaders, including Governor Jim Douglas and former State Auditor Randy Brock.
